Hello Dr. Williams,

1. What is the meaning of "textual elements" according to the DGC1180 course guide? Does it simply mean slogans and captions OR we must make design and play with fonts as the breast milk example?

About seeking examples of the style we adopted:

2. How many of them do we have to find out?

3. Do we have to use the examples explained by you in class OR no requirement?

4. Should we include a detailed description like background, purpose of the used examples?

Thanksssss

1. Textual elements are any text you use. The example reflects the New Typographie and some Bauhaus which are both styles that emphasize the use of type for text and illustration. You are not required to do it in that way. That is just a way that worked for that approach.

2. Just a two or three that connect your piece with the style.

3. No requirement. You can choose another historical style that you are more comfortable with and that is perhaps more art based rather than design based.

4. No this is about your work, the expression of the slogan and the connection of your work to the past.

Good morning! Two more questions:
1. do we have to use the theme texts as they are (Breast Milk 100% Safe or Second Hand Smoke is No Joke)? Or can we use another text with the same topic, which expresses the same problem?

2. are there any format requirements for the accompanying document? e.g. font size, spacing...

Thank you and have a nice day!

Hello Dr. Williams,

As there was some small words on the top right corner of the example, does this mean that we can include extra information in the poster in addition to the theme topic?

Thanks~~

Lucie:

1. If you can stay with the text as written because it creates a limitation that you must work within. If you decide you need to change it then you need to be sure it gets to exactly the same point. If you do a translation, say Czech, then you will obviously make some adjustment to make the meaning fit. You can do it in Czech if you would like.

2. Since I don't care too much about the exact number of pages I am not going to dictate an exact font, size, etc for the report. I need it to be at least 1 1/2 spacing for readability, please.

JK:
You can absolutely include additional information to support your design and the message, but the message itself needs to be central.

Yes, You can mix styles. They just need to be identifiable.

Hi Russell~~

I want to know does it mind whether the poster is vertical or horizontal?

Thanks!

RBWphd said...

You should work with vertical limitation because posters and advertisements are generally in that format and are ultimately more useful in that format.

On the 5th of Dec, we just have to bring along our work (with document) to your office between 3-5pm, right?
